Drone photography rules for Kaudulla elephant herds and eco retreats
4 Answers
You will practically never get a permit to fly a drone over wild elephants in Kaudulla or Minneriya. The Department of Wildlife Conservation strictly bans them because the high pitched buzzing severely distresses the herds and can cause mothers to abandon calves. For wellness and editing, check out Aliya Resort or Habarana Village, which offer gorgeous quiet spaces, fast Wi-Fi, and fantastic Ayurvedic spas overlooking the rock fortresses.
If you want aerial shots, look for hotels outside the park buffer zones that allow drones over their private lakes. You can still get amazing landscape photos of the dry zone without disturbing the wildlife.
The spa at Aliya Resort is incredible. Having a deep tissue massage after bouncing around in a safari jeep for four hours is the ultimate luxury.
If you get caught launching a drone inside the park without the multi agency permits, your gear will be confiscated and you will face heavy fines. Stick to telephoto lenses from the jeep.
