Kithal Ella is great and less crowded than Ravana Falls. However, never swim if the water is brown and rushing as flash floods are a real safety risk in the hillcountry.

Always check the local weather before hiking high into the hills. Rains can start suddenly.

The hike to Upper Diyaluma is the best for swimming but it is a bit of a drive from Ella.
