Hotel wanted us in the van at 4.45am. August blogs say the viewpoint is cloud from 9.30 anyway and some people say the park closes mornings after rain. I am not paying park fees to walk in milk. Do they actually shut the gate or is this just fog.

The park is open. August does not add a secret morning closure. What August does is put cloud on World's End by 9 or 9:30 most days, sometimes from the moment you arrive. You go at gate-open (6) or you skip. If the whole plateau is raining sideways at 5:30, you can abort and keep the jeep money conversation honest with your driver - the DWC ticket is only bought at the gate.

We left Nuwara Eliya at 5:10, at the cliff by 7:20, had 15 minutes of view, then white. Still glad we went. Trails were slick. No plastic bags - they are strict.
