Hotel booking scams and overbooking in Ella.
2 Answers from travellers
Hotel overbooking scams are unfortunately very common in Ella during the peak tourist season. Small guesthouses often list their rooms on multiple platforms and will maliciously cancel your booking upon arrival if a walk in tourist offers them a higher cash price on the spot.
To totally prevent this, you must explicitly message the hotel through the booking platform a few days before your arrival to reconfirm your reservation and state your exact arrival time. Booking highly rated, established properties rather than brand new, unreviewed guesthouses significantly reduces this risk.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
