Is a guide mandatory for trekking in the Knuckles Mountain Range?
2 Answers from travellers
While not strictly a legal requirement for all paths, hiring a local guide is highly recommended. The Knuckles range is notorious for sudden thick mist and weather changes that can make navigation impossible even for experts. Leeches are very active here, and guides know the best way to handle them. A local guide costs around three to five thousand rupees and adds immense value to your safety.
If you decide to go, make sure you have an offline map like Maps.me and start your hike very early. The descent into Meemure village is a popular route but very taxing on the knees. Always inform your guesthouse of your planned route before leaving.
