Is it dangerous to dive during the monsoon in the south.
2 Answers from travellers
It is incredibly highly discouraged to dive on the south coast during the peak southwest monsoon in July. The ocean experiences massive dangerous swells brutal undercurrents and the heavy rain washes mud into the sea plunging underwater visibility down to near zero.
Almost all highly reputable dive centers in Unawatuna and Mirissa completely close their operations and physically move their equipment to the east coast during these months for safety reasons. You must travel to Trincomalee if you want to dive safely in July.

Someone befriends you and offers a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to buy gems at wholesale prices and resell them abroad for huge profit. They may show you fake export certificates. The gems are worthless glass or low-quality stones.
Restaurants without visible prices. Bill arrives with inflated charges (500 LKR coconut becomes 1500 LKR). "Service charges" added without disclosure.
