Is it easy to rent good snorkeling gear, or bring my own?

I am trying to travel light. Can I reliably rent a well-fitting mask and snorkel at the beaches, or is the rental gear usually broken and leaky?

Bring your own mask, rent the fins. The rental masks at the beach shacks are usually cheap plastic, heavily scratched, and leak constantly. A good silicone mask takes up almost no room in your backpack.

Good advice. I will pack my own mask and snorkel tube.

If you go on a dedicated boat tour (like Pigeon Island), the dive shops provide decent gear. But if you just want to swim off the beach at Polhena, the shack rentals are terrible.
