We saw the boulder climbing at the end. Do you need to be very fit.

The vast majority of the Pidurangala hike is actually a very moderate highly shaded walk up uneven stone stairs passing a beautiful reclining Buddha statue. It is completely manageable for anyone with average fitness.

If you have severe knee problems or are traveling with very young children or elderly parents that final boulder scramble is likely too dangerous. For healthy adults simply wearing good shoes and taking it slowly makes it a fun adventure.

However the final five minutes are intensely challenging. You must physically scramble and pull your body weight up over massive steep boulders to reach the flat summit plateau. It requires a bit of agility and flexibility.
