Bambarakanda Falls is the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. The hike to the main viewing platform is actually quite easy and accessible via a well marked pine forest trail, making it perfectly safe for families with children.

However, if you want to hike to the very top of the falls to see the upper pools, the trail becomes incredibly steep and slippery. That upper section is definitely not recommended for young children.

Just sticking to the base offers a spectacular view of the water plunging 263 meters down the rock face, and you can enjoy a safe family picnic near the lower stream.
