Yes, the Kandy to Ella train is running completely normally now. The massive landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah in late November temporarily blocked several sections of the track, particularly near Nanu Oya, but the railway authority cleared the debris and fully restored services by early January.
It is actually a fantastic time to take the train. The intense rains from the cyclone drastically replenished the waterfalls and turned the tea estates incredibly lush and vibrant green, making the scenery even more spectacular than usual.
The schedule is entirely back to its regular timetable. However, because repair crews are still reinforcing some retaining walls along the steep drops, the train occasionally slows down to a crawl in certain specific zones, which might add a slight delay to your overall journey.
