No hotel. Bad planning. Someone said the Matale / Dambulla buses still leave from the Katugastota side after the parade. It is 8.25. Google says 4 km. Streets are people. Is that a walk you actually do or a mugging plus a closed bus stand.

Katugastota road is one of the managed corridors in the special plan (heavy vehicles via Mahaiyawa / Thilak Ratnayake, etc.). It is not a pleasant 4 km through a draining crowd with backpacks. If you do it, do it as a pair, on the lit side, after the tape on your stretch is actually down. A 1,500-rupee tuk once you are off the ring is saner. Night buses exist; the stand being open at the minute you arrive is the gamble.

We did not walk it. We paid a car on the Gopallawa side to a Peradeniya room.
