Kite surfing conditions at Adams Bridge Mannar in April
4 Answers from travellers
Mannar is spectacular and far less crowded than Kalpitiya. The southwest monsoon winds are beginning to push through Adams Bridge right now, averaging 15 to 18 knots in the afternoons. There are a couple of excellent kite camps operating on the sandbanks that offer full gear rentals.
Is it easy to get there by public transport from Colombo, or do you recommend hiring a private van for the gear.
The flat water conditions behind the sandbars there are absolutely unreal for freestyle riding. Definitely worth the long train ride north!
Make sure you respect the local wildlife zones. Parts of the sandbanks are protected bird sanctuaries during certain breeding months, so listen to the local instructors on where to launch.
