Loop traffic looks gone at 10.14 - expressway to Colombo now or still a Perahera dump onto Gopallawa
Cousin in Kadawatha says come, the highway is empty. We have the rental. Gopallawa was the published corridor. Partner wants to roll now that the loop looks unwound. Is 10.14 actually the gap after Perahera traffic or are we joining the dump of leftover vans onto the Colombo road in the dark.

William Gopallawa Mawatha and Old Peradeniya Road were the vehicle corridors during the loop, not a promise they are a quiet on-ramp at 22:14. If tape is down and you can merge without crossing a leftover cone line, you can drive. If a jeep is still using the corridor, you wait. 1,749 dead this year. Loud horns were banned during - still do not be the horn on a religious precinct on the way out.
Do not invent which Central Expressway segment is which. The honest version is: get off the loop, then the A1 / whatever highway your maps actually route, lights on, one sober driver who did not stand the 4th. I will not invent a 22:14 travel time to Kadawatha.
We left at 10.20 another night and still crawled the first three kilometres of leftover people. Highway after that was ordinary. The dump is the first bit.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
