The rules are very strict at the Nagapooshani Amman Kovil on Nainativu Island. Men absolutely must remove their shirts and enter bare chested, wearing trousers or a traditional sarong.

Women must wear clothing that completely covers their shoulders and legs past the knees. Everyone must remove their shoes before entering the sacred temple grounds to show respect.
