The rules are very strict at Nallur Kandaswamy Temple. Men absolutely must remove their shirts and enter bare chested, wearing trousers or a traditional sarong. This is a sign of ultimate respect and humility.

Women must wear clothing that completely covers their shoulders and legs past the knees. Everyone must remove their shoes before entering the sacred grounds. The guards will enforce this firmly.
