Night porter finally unlocked the gate - kitchen still a thing or just bed
He opened. We are in. Shoes off, everything smells of coconut-fibre smoke, and the dining room lights are off. Reception said "kitchen closed for Perahera" at 5. Now that the street is a street again, is there actually a late plate or do we stop asking and eat biscuits.

A lake-side kitchen that shut at 5 for the route does not magically reopen at 9.11 because the tape drooped. Ask once, politely, for rice or a string-hopper plate if you can see a light in the back. If the answer is no, that is the answer. Inland hoppers / a sealed shop is more honest than lobbying a night porter who just spent two hours watching elephants.
We will boil water and find biscuits. We will not restart a full kitchen for two covers at 9.11. Tell us you are in so we can lock the gate behind the next guests.
Our place sent a boy out for hoppers from two streets back. That is the real late dinner. Pay him for the walk.
Asking once for rice. If no, biscuits and the gate locked behind the next people.
