Passport good until 12 Jan 2027. Landing 26 Aug, planning about 25 days. Might buy the exit flight later because we do not know if we are going home or to Bangkok. Will the airline or immigration kick off?

Usual practice is passport valid 6+ months from arrival. The ETA form lets you apply without a ticket, that is not the same as boarding. CMB and a few origin airlines (India, Gulf, Europe) do ask for onward or return inside the 30 days.

Qatar check-in in Doha wanted the return PDF. Immigration in Colombo glanced at it. I would not do a true one-way without a dummy onward or a flexible ticket.

Treat 6-month passport plus some proof of onward as required even if the form does not lock you in. Not worth the argument.
