Secret jungle waterfall parties near Kandy and catering local food
5 Answers from travellers
Occasionally, private promoters throw "secret" events near smaller cascades in the Hanthana or Knuckles foothills. You have to follow local Instagram promoters to find the pin drops. They usually hire a local village "bites" vendor to fry hot devilled chicken, fried handello (small fish), and cassava chips right on site to serve as drinking snacks.
The devilled pork at those parties is insane. It is so spicy it makes you drink your beer twice as fast.
Make sure you secure a tuk tuk driver to wait for you. Getting back from a remote jungle rave at 4 AM is impossible otherwise.
Bring mosquito repellent! The jungle at night near moving water is crawling with mosquitoes.
Be extremely careful near the water if you are drinking. Rocks covered in algae are literal ice rinks.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
