While the main Kalpitiya lagoon gets incredibly crowded with advanced riders during the peak windy season, Kappalady lagoon located slightly further south is a brilliant secret spot. The water is perfectly flat and shallow, making it the ultimate safe haven for absolute beginners to practice.

Another fantastic, highly secluded option is taking a boat across to Dream Spot. It is a tiny sandbar separating the ocean from the lagoon, offering buttery smooth, uncrowded water on one side and small ocean waves on the other, though you need a boat transfer to reach it.
