Yes, Kithal Ella is much safer and far less crowded than Ravana Falls. It is a smaller cascade tucked into the jungle right off the main hiking trail to Ella Rock. The pool at the base is usually calm during the dry season. Just be careful of the slippery rocks getting in and out, and avoid swimming if the water looks muddy brown, which indicates heavy rain upstream.
