Secret spots to photograph the Kotmale reservoir.
3 Answers from travellers
For a truly hidden photography spot, ask a local tuk tuk driver to take you up the winding dirt roads towards the Kadadora area above the reservoir. You will find incredible elevated views over the water, totally away from any other tourists.
Another spectacular angle is from the terrace of the Mahaweli Maha Seya stupa. The wide, white platform overlooks the entire valley and offers incredible lighting for photography right as the sun sets over the mountains.
If you visit during the peak dry season, the water levels drop significantly, revealing the ruins of the old Kadadora temple that was flooded when the dam was built. This makes for an incredibly eerie and unique photograph.
