Ahangama has exploded recently. It has amazing boutique cafes, co-working spaces, and great intermediate breaks (like Kabalana Beach/The Rock). Midigama is much quieter, slightly more raw, and the waves (Rams, Lazy Left) are more geared towards solid intermediates/advanced.
They are only 10 minutes apart by tuk-tuk! Stay in Ahangama for the food and vibe, and just take a tuk-tuk to Midigama if you want to surf Lazy Left.
If you want good coffee, avocado toast, and evening parties, Ahangama is the place. It is very trendy right now.
Great point, didn't realize they were so close. Ahangama it is for the accommodation!
