Ticket machine at 5.30 Saturday - 3000 from the machine or a guy selling in the dark

FAQ: foreigners 3,000 other countries / 2,500 SAARC+Thailand+Myanmar, from the machine, other people's tickets not valid. 5.30 is still dark (sunrise 6.00). Partner is worried the machines are off until "office hours" and a guy will sell us a Saturday Perahera ticket on the steps. Machine at dawn, or wait for 9.30 theva in daylight.

I cannot swear whether a specific machine is powered at 05:30 on 22 Aug - if the machine is dark, wait at the official booth, do not buy a QR from a man on the steps. Cash in small notes for the machine if it wants cash, card if it wants card - do not invent which. No "Perahera Saturday extra" from a WhatsApp. SAARC passport at the SAARC rate; everyone else 3,000.

Machine was on at 5.30. The guy on the steps was not a machine. We ignored him.
