Traditional boat races or water festivals worth timing a trip around?
I love local festivals. Are there any traditional boat races or water-related events worth planning for?

There are occasional traditional boat races and water festivals in different parts of the country, often tied to temple events or local traditions. The most famous might be around the Kandy Esala Perahera period or specific regional events. These are not as widely advertised as the big peraheras. Ask locally or check cultural calendars closer to your travel dates. They can be wonderful, authentic experiences when you can find them.
We missed one by a couple of days near a temple. Locals said it was beautiful but not something you can easily plan in advance.
