In Kandy for Perahera. Want to do the temple morning of the 27th before the night parade. Seeing both 2,000 and 3,000 rupees. Sarong rental a scam? Can I wear a tank if I carry a scarf?

Foreigners LKR 3,000, SAARC / Thailand / Myanmar 2,500. Machines on site. Shoulders and knees covered, shoes off, hats off, no posing with your back to the relic. Scarf over a tank is the usual fix, they will still side-eye beach shorts. 27th is Poya plus the grand night, it will be next-level busy. Puja times commonly about 06:30 / 09:30 / 18:30. Sarong stall outside is optional if you already have decent clothes. Do not buy a "special VIP puja" from a guy at the gate.

Went 8am on a normal day, already busy. On the 27th I would go at opening or skip and just do the street parade.

White or light clothes blend in on Poya. I rented a sarong once, 200 rupees, fine. The VIP puja pitch is the scam, not the cloth.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.

Unofficial Temple Guide ScamVerified

Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
