Standard travel insurance often explicitly excludes scooter or motorcycle accidents if you do not possess a valid motorcycle license from your home country, even if you wear a helmet.

You must ensure you have an International Driving Permit with the specific motorcycle stamp, and get it locally endorsed. Otherwise, your insurance company will refuse to cover any medical bills from a crash.

Always read the fine print of your policy before renting. Some policies require you to purchase an additional extreme sports or adventure pack to be fully covered for scooter riding in Asia.
