Where do we eat lamprais or actual Jaffna crab in Colombo before we go north - not a hotel buffet
Night in Colombo Wednesday, Jaffna Friday. I want the Dutch Burgher rice parcel and I want to know whether to save the crab for Jaffna. Heat advisory up north, maybe we only get one serious meal. Names that are open this week, not a 2018 list.

Lamprais is a Colombo / Burgher thing - look at the old places that still wrap it and call ahead, it is not always every day. Jaffna crab is better in Jaffna, especially this fortnight with festival energy - chilli, bun, the works. Colombo "Jaffna crab" can be good at a serious Tamil/Jaffna restaurant; it will not be cheap. Do not eat street crab from a bucket if you are flying tomorrow.
Festival nights the good places fill. Book a table, modest dress if you are coming from Nallur.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
