Carrying heavy 600mm telephoto lenses in the jeep all day wrecks my back. Are there specific eco lodges near Wilpattu that offer proper Ayurvedic spine massages after a safari.

The bumpy dirt tracks of Wilpattu combined with heavy camera gear will definitely compress your spine. Look into Mahoora Tented Safari Camps or Uga Forest Rock nearby. They either have in house therapists or can arrange for a traditional Ayurvedic physician to visit your lodge for a Pinda Sweda herbal poultice massage, which specifically targets joint and muscle stiffness.

For the photography side, ask your driver to park near the Kokkari Villu lake. Leopards in Wilpattu are less habituated than Yala, so sitting silently at the waterholes with your lens supported by a beanbag is much better than chasing them around the park.
