Not a car to Colombo. Not a scheduled 5am. Not zero cars on the kerb at 8.42. App is showing a normal-looking number for three streets inland. Partner thinks the surge died with the relic. Is 10.32 actually ordinary in-town pricing or a leftover Perahera multiplier with a friendly icon.

An icon at 22:32 is a quote for that minute, not a gazette that surge "ended." I cannot swear whether PickMe/Uber even apply a named Perahera multiplier in Kandy tonight. If the number looks like a town hop, pin the inland side of the house, check the plate in the street, cash as the app says. Do not start the hop on leftover cones.
Three streets inland at 10.32 is a walk if you still have legs. A car for three streets after a Kumbal is how you meet a tired driver. 1,749 road deaths. If you ride, ride.
Quote looked ordinary, driver wanted cash extra "because Perahera." We cancelled, walked.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
