Are the roads in the Jaffna peninsula safe for bicycle tours?

The Jaffna peninsula is almost entirely flat, making it a dream for cyclists. The ride to Casuarina Beach takes you across the causeways which is a beautiful experience. Traffic is relatively light once you leave the city center, but be mindful of the heat. Start your ride by 6:00 AM and aim to be at the beach before 10:00 AM. Always carry plenty of water and wear a hat, as there is very little shade along the causeways.
