Do NOT walk along the actual beach sand at night in Weligama. While violent crime is very rare, the beach at night is unlit and attracts packs of highly territorial stray dogs that can be aggressive. Stick to the main Galle Road, which is well-lit and has traffic. Better yet, just hail a tuk-tuk on the main road for 300 rupees. Safety first.

The sand fleas are also terrible on the beach at night. You will wake up covered in bites.

There are always tuk-tuks waiting outside the main party venues like Tiki Cliff. Just take one.
