Look for 24-hour reception or staff presence, secure room access (key cards or good locks), good lighting in corridors and entrances, and staff who are professional and attentive. Hotels with good recent reviews from solo travelers mentioning feeling safe and comfortable are usually reliable. Central locations in tourist areas (Galle Fort, Unawatuna) are generally fine, but slightly quieter hotels with good security can be more peaceful. Many solo women stay in well-reviewed guesthouses without issues. Reading recent solo traveler reviews helps identify places with good safety culture. Most south coast tourist hotels are fine, but choosing well-reviewed places with good staff presence adds peace of mind.
