It is not recommended to walk alone at 2 AM on those dark jungle paths. While muggings are very rare, the main danger is packs of territorial stray dogs that become highly aggressive at night, and the lack of street lighting makes it easy to trip on uneven roads. There are always tuk-tuks waiting outside the party; pay the 500 rupees for a safe ride to your door.

If you must walk, join a group of other backpackers heading in the same direction. The dogs avoid large groups.
