Yes, absolutely. The inside section of Hiriketiya bay is a sandy bottom beach break that produces very gentle, rolling white water. It is literally the perfect, safe environment for someone who has never touched a surfboard.

There are several friendly local surf schools right on the sand. They will provide you with a massive, highly buoyant foam board and an instructor who will easily push you into your very first waves.
