Afternoon thundershowers are very common in the highlands during April. The trail at Horton Plains is open but can become very slippery. We advise all hikers to finish their walk by noon. If you hear thunder, stay away from open plains and the cliff edge at World End. The temperature can also drop rapidly during rain, so carrying a lightweight waterproof shell is essential for safety.
