Yes the Ambuluwawa biodiversity complex is entirely surrounded by dense jungle and is home to a massive population of very confident macaque monkeys.

They are incredibly skilled thieves when it comes to exposed food. You must absolutely ensure all your snacks are securely zipped shut inside a backpack. Never carry exposed food or water bottles in your hands.

While they are usually not aggressive towards humans directly if you tease them with food or attempt to pet them they will absolutely try to snatch your bags. Simply ignore them and keep your belongings secured.
