Clothes are wet and smell of torch smoke - will a Kandy guesthouse actually wash them tonight

We stood through a spit of rain and two hours of coconut-fibre smoke. Everything in the daypack is damp, including tomorrow's shirt. Reception is a night porter and a kettle. Is "laundry tonight" a real button on a Perahera Friday or do we hang this over the fan and smell like a torch tomorrow.

A night porter will not run a washing machine at 9.15 for two shirts. Hang them. Fan on. Bathroom door open. Kandy's 21 Aug forecast was slight showers and a humid night - they will still be damp at 7am. Wear the least-wet thing to breakfast and ask for a morning wash if you are staying through Saturday. Do not hand a stranger in the alley a bag of clothes.

We can soak a shirt in a bucket if you ask nicely. We cannot promise dry-by-morning in August. Say so now, not at 11.

We used the guesthouse bucket Wednesday, hung over the chair, wore it slightly smoked on Thursday. Fine. The paid "express laundry" card on the desk is a morning job.
