Came up from Kandy after a Kumbal night. I packed linen. WhatsApp from the hotel said bring a jumper, heater extra. Is August actually jacket weather or is that a tourist markup on the heater. Also is the town just fog and closed tea factories.

August nights here sit in the low to mid teens Celsius. That is jumper and long trousers, not a down expedition. A lot of old hotels are damp, not Alpine. Ask if the room heater works before you pay extra - some are decorative. Daytime is 18-22 and wet. Tea factory tours run in the rain; the views do not.

I was in a hoodie at 8pm and fine. The cold shock is coming from Arugam or Colombo, not from actual winter. Waterproof shoes matter more than a puffer.

Gregory Lake in the rain is a walk around a cloud. Do it only if you like that. Horton Plains is the 5am decision, not an afternoon filler.
