There is no direct public bus, but the route is very easy. Take a tuk tuk from Arugam Bay to the Pottuvil bus stand. From there, catch the bus heading to Monaragala. At Monaragala, switch to a Badulla or Colombo bound bus and hop off at Ella. The entire journey takes about 4 to 5 hours. Alternatively, many surf camps organize direct shared tourist vans daily.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
