If we want to visit Maldives for a few days and come back, is the ETA valid for two entries.

Yes, the standard short visit tourist ETA currently issued by Sri Lanka allows for double entry within a 30 day period. This makes doing a quick side trip to the Maldives incredibly easy.

Just make sure that both of your entries fall within the 30 day validity window of the original ETA approval date.

You can arrive in Colombo, spend a week exploring, fly to the Maldives for a few days, and then re enter Sri Lanka using the exact same ETA document without having to pay or apply again.
