A driver took us to a shop selling lucky stones. Are these gems genuine.

The gem shops surrounding the Kataragama temple gates and along the main highway are notorious tourist traps. Drivers receive massive commissions to drop you off there. The lucky stones or astrology gems they sell are almost always worthless colored glass or incredibly low grade synthetics.

They will often use high pressure sales tactics, claiming a specific colored stone will align your chakras or bring you immense wealth. Do not fall for it. Politely decline and walk out immediately.
