Family says catch a 10pm night bus Kandy to Ella - is that even a hill thing or a Colombo rumour
WhatsApp uncle says there is always a 10pm to Ella from Goods Shed. Maps is a mess. Superline looks like Pettah-Badulla. Hill blogs say last buses die after 6 or 7. Do we run to the stand with a suitcase at 9.50 or is "10pm Ella" the same wrong-company story as the 10pm Superline.

NextBus hill-country guide (Apr 2026) says hill routes thin after ~6-7 PM. The night-bus guide's named overnight corridors are Colombo-Jaffna / east / south, plus a Kandy-Kataragama ~8pm via Bandarawela - not a branded 10pm Kandy-Ella. Superline.lk on this fetch is Pettah-Badulla / Passara / Trinco, not Ella from Goods Shed at 10. Treat uncle's 10pm as a rumour. Do not run. Do not pay a tout last-seat on the pavement for a van that is not on any board.
Ella is a morning hill problem. Sleep. First daylight bus toward Nuwara Eliya / Badulla is the honest version. A 10pm Kumbal-night departure into the hills is how people make the 1,749 road-deaths statistic personal.
We asked at Goods Shed at 9.40 last year and got a shrug. Hotel. Morning bus. Not a story.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
