Free 30-day ETA, original out on day 28, airline rebooked us to day 32 because of a Gulf disruption. Can we just pay at CMB or do we need the extension portal now?

Do not plan to "just pay at the airport". Official line is apply before expiry. Starting an online form is not a shield if it expires. Immigration HQ or the e-services portal is the clean path. Travel-agency blogs throw around USD 250-500+ overstay numbers - I have not seen an official schedule, treat overstay as expensive and mood-ruining, not a casual fee. If you are already on day 29, go to Battaramulla or hammer the portal. Do not go to Sigiriya and hope.

We extended from Kandy on day 22 when our flight slipped. Took 4 days. Better than a departure-hall argument.

If the portal is slow, Battaramulla in person. Take passport, photo, address, the new ticket.

Starting the extension today. Not gambling on the airport desk.
