Is cycling the best way to explore the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.
I heard renting a bicycle is the ideal way to see all the ruins. Is it really better than hiring a tuk tuk and how long does the full circuit actually take.

Cycling is absolutely the perfect way to explore Polonnaruwa and is highly recommended over any motorized transport. The ancient city ruins are spread across a flat compact area with shaded tree lined paths connecting all the main monuments. Bicycle rentals near the entrance cost only about five hundred rupees for the entire day. Plan for a full four to five hours to comfortably visit the Royal Palace, Quadrangle, Gal Vihara reclining Buddha, and the Lankatilaka image house. Start early around seven in the morning to beat both the heat and the tour bus crowds. Always carry plenty of drinking water as there are limited shops once you enter the archaeological park boundaries.
