I heard Sri Lanka is expanding the free visa pilot scheme this month. Are tourists from North America eligible for the zero fee entry yet.

The government is in the final stages of cabinet approval to expand the free ETA to forty countries, which includes Canada and the US. It is part of the 2026 tourism push. Currently, the ETA portal might still show a fee for some, so I suggest checking the official gov.lk site every few days for the formal activation. The goal is to reach five million arrivals by the end of next year.

Until the official rollout, please ensure you use the official government portal to avoid extra service fees from third party sites that are not updated with the new zero fee policy.
