Yes the extreme inside section of Hiriketiya bay is perfectly safe for toddlers. The bay is shaped like a deep horseshoe which completely blocks heavy ocean swells.

Just be highly vigilant of beginner surfers occasionally losing control of their foam boards in the shallow water. Sit slightly away from the main surf school operating areas to ensure your toddler has total safety.

While advanced surfers tackle the reef break on the left the water washing up onto the main sand is usually just gentle rolling white water creating a highly forgiving environment for young kids to splash in.
