We are only Open Water certified. Are there shallow wrecks near the south coast.

Yes absolutely. While the famous massive steamships are very deep there are fantastic beginner friendly wrecks near Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna. The SS Conch is a brilliantly accessible historical wreck resting at a maximum depth of around 20 meters perfectly within the limits of a standard Open Water license.

Another great option is the Tango wreck near Galle. These shallower wrecks are heavily encrusted with soft corals and are teeming with highly curious batfish and sea turtles providing an incredibly safe thrilling introduction to wreck diving.
