Mirissa fish harbor buying fresh yellowfin tuna for our homestay

You need to be at the Mirissa Fisheries Harbour by 6:00 AM when the deep-sea multi-day boats unload. Tourists are usually charged a 50 LKR entry fee at the gate. Walk past the wholesale trucks to the small retail stalls. Tuna is sold by the kilo. Do not accept the first price; ask a few vendors. You can usually get premium tuna for 1500-2500 LKR per kilo depending on the season.
Wear closed shoes. The harbor floor is covered in fish blood, ice, and guts. It is an amazing cultural experience but very messy.
Perfect, our homestay host said they will make an Ambul Thiyal curry if we bring the fish back.
Ask the vendor to clean and fillet it for you. They do it in 2 minutes with massive knives. Tip them 200 rupees for the cleaning.
