I am an intermediate surfer heading to Main Point in A-Bay. Is the reef sharp enough that I absolutely need to bring reef booties.

Yes, absolutely bring them. The inside section of Main Point (before it hits the sand at Baby Point) is a very shallow, razor-sharp live coral reef. If you wipe out on a low tide or need to put your feet down to navigate out of the impact zone, you will get sliced up. "Reef rash" infections ruin holidays. Wear the booties.

I stepped on a sea urchin my first day there. Getting the spines dug out of my heel was pure agony. Wear booties!

Most locals do not wear them because they know exactly where the coral heads are. As a tourist, do not risk it.
