Secret tunnel at Mount Lavinia Hotel and beach club parties

The legend of British Governor Thomas Maitland and the local dancer Lovina is one of Sri Lankas most famous colonial romances! The secret tunnel actually existed, though it was sealed off years ago. You can still see the bricked up entrance in the hotels lower levels. It is a stunning 1806 mansion to explore.
Do not miss the Hot Butter Cuttlefish at the beach shacks. It is practically a religion in Mount Lavinia. Greasy, spicy, and perfectly crispy.
I recommend grabbing a cocktail on the grand terrace of the hotel first just to watch the sunset over the Colombo skyline, then heading down to the noisy beach bars for dinner.
After you soak in the history, take the steps down to the beach strip. Buba Beach Club and Shore By O are fantastic spots for weekend DJ sets right on the sand.
The parties on Mount Lavinia beach go on until early morning, especially on Saturdays. It is much more of a local Colombo party crowd than the tourist heavy south coast.
